Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal life energy. It is a gentle yet profound method of
Traditional Japanese energy work which is a hands-on healing art that taps into the energy and
animates our physical bodies known as Ki. In its purest form, Reiki recognizes the sacredness
and interconnectedness of one’s true self and all of life.
The concept of healing is to make whole and that is the intention with Reiki. To become whole,
we need to balance all aspects of ourselves to facilitate vibrance and well-being on a holistic
level.
Our mind and body know how to heal itself. As the Reiki energy in the body moves and
cleanses, it supports our natural healing ability. The system of Reiki supports the innate healing
process we all contain.

How does it all work?

Many ancient cultures held the belief that life energy flows through the body, deeply affecting our entire being. Disease, disharmony, and imbalance are believed to occur due to disruptions in the pathways of the life force energy, which animates physical organs and tissues as it flows through them.

When a person receives Reiki, the Universal consciousness assesses where the person has blocks and then directs the healing energy through the practitioner’s hands. The Reiki energy then works with the negative thoughts and feelings that are blocking one’s natural energy flow and heals them as well.

By flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy, Reiki raises the vibratory level in and around the physical body. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. Reiki clears, straightens, and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing for a healthy integration of Ki to affect change in the physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies.

During a Reiki session, the recipient will lie down or be comfortably positioned while remaining fully clothed. The practitioner's hands may work slightly above the body in the energy field or gently lying on the body. The practitioner will set an intention for healing and the energy is channeled through the practitioner's hands into the recipient.

The energy does not come from the practitioner, but rather through the practitioner. The practitioner is a channel for the energy. The practitioner uses a series of hand placements such as above the head, shoulders, back, chest, stomach, and limbs, but sometimes will be called to work in a specific area.
